Smitfraud is a spyware that hijacks the desktop and displays a message: A fatal error in IE has occured at 0028:C0011E36 in VXD VMM(01) + 00010E36. It also prompts pop-up ads.

To remove Smitfraud, please follow the instruction:

1. Terminate the processes in Task Manager:
   intmon.exe
   msmsgs.exe
   intmonp.exe
   popuper.exe
   msole32.exe
    
2. Click Start > Run. Type REGSVR32 -u <Dll_name>. Then click OK. Replace <Dll_name> with followings:
   param32.dll
   hhk.dll
   Registry management is too hard? Download Registry Mechanic , and you will find it too easy!
    
3. Remove the following directories and their containing files in Explorer:
   %Program Files%\search maid
   %Program Files%\virtual maid
