DSSAgent Description:

An (apparently) discontinued spyware product of Brøderbund Software. Bundled with most Brøderbund and Learning Company titles until April, 2002. A desktop computer running DSSAgent might send over 10,000 DNS requests in 15 minutes, slowing network traffic. There are reports that it slows CPU processing as well.

Follow these steps to remove DSSAgent from your machine. Begin by backing up your registry and your system, and/or setting a Restore Point, to prevent trouble if you make a mistake.

1. Kill these running processes with Task Manager:
   systemroot+\bbstore\dss\dssagent.exe
   
2. Remove these registry items (if present) with RegEdit:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\broderbund software\dss
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\broderbund software\dss
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\shareddlls
   \c:\windows\bbstore\dss\dssagent.exe
   
3. Remove these files (if present) with Windows Explorer:
   systemroot+\bbstore\dss\dssagent.exe
   dssregistry.ini
