GAIN Description:

GAIN is an adware program that downloads and displays advertisements. The Gator Advertising Information Network is a network of advertisers who deliver ads thru the use of adware technology developed by The Gator Corporation. This network is intended to be "permission based"; in return for agreeing to receive free software from participating software developers, users of GAIN-supported products agree to receive periodic advertising. Should a user of a GAIN-supported application wish to stop receiving advertising, the GAIN-supported application should be uninstalled in accordance with the manufaturer's license. In the event any GAIN components remain after such an uninstall, Spyware Doctor can be used to "clean up" your computer.

Follow these steps to remove GAIN from your machine. Begin by backing up your registry and your system, and/or setting a Restore Point, to prevent trouble if you make a mistake.

2. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel or Start > Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs, click PublishingApplication, click Add/Remove, Change/Remove, or Remove.
   
   
3. Go to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, delete the values: "Trickler" = "[PATH TO ADWARE FILE]", "CMESys" = "%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\CMEII\CMESys.exe"
