What is the Beagle.gen worm?

Beagle.gen is a generic detection for the W32.Beagle family of mass-mailing worms.

Common characteristics of the Beagle family include:
  • Collecting email addresses from the files on your hard drive.
  • Sending email messages to the collected addresses, either containing the worm as an attachment or containing an exploit to automatically download and execute the worm on the recipient's machine.
  • Attaching the worm as an executable, or an archive, or a password-protected archive.
  • Opening a backdoor on infected computers.
  • Terminating processes of antivirus and security software.
  • Attempting to spread through peer-to-peer file sharing networks.
