WinPCDefender Description

WinPCDefender is a rogue security program that uses scare tactics by showing fake warning popups, fake security warnings, fake scan results to trick user. It is designed to look like an anti-spyware and this tricks people into purchasing it.

WinPCDefender is just a rename of fake spyware remover called XP PoliceAntivirus. It enters the system after the installation of trojan application that pretends to be a video codec. It is very important to ignore all disinformation provided by Virus Sweeper and remove it from the system as soon possible after detection.

  2. Terminate WinPCDefender processes in Task Manager:
    defender.exe
    pcdefender.exe
    WinPC Defender.exe
    WDefDemo.exe
    7339880.exe
    1234.exe
     
  3. Remove WinPCDefender dlls. Click Start > Run. Type REGSVR32 -u %Dll_name%. Replace the %Dll_name% with following:
    ieocx.dll
     
  4. Click Start > Run. Type REGEDIT. Then click OK. Navigate to WinPCDefender subkeys and delete WinPCDefender values:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "WinPC Defender"
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinPC Defender
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\WinPC Defender

  5. Remove WinPCDefender directories and files in Explorer if exist:
    %User Profile%\AppData\Roaming\pcdefender.exe
